01 STUDIO (IN CONTRUCTION)

Mian Su, also known as traditional dough sculpture, is an ancient Chinese folk art that involves creating intricate figures and models using colored dough. This craft dates back over a thousand years and has been passed down through generations as an expression of cultural heritage. These sculptures are often used in celebrations, festivals, and as decorative pieces, showcasing the artist’s skill in shaping lifelike or symbolic forms with remarkable detail and finesse.

01studio is a specialized workshop located in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China, dedicated to preserving and promoting the traditional craft of Mian Su. The project focuses on maximizing the use of small spaces through an innovative, sustainable approach. The space was designed to embrace versatility by installing detachable wall panels, allowing for a dynamic range of usage scenarios. These adaptable panels provide flexibility, catering to different artistic and functional needs.

A key aspect of the design is the use of environmentally friendly materials. Most of the structure is built using OSB (Oriented Strand Board), a lightweight engineered wood known for its durability and eco-friendly properties. By integrating traditional craftsmanship with modern sustainable practices, 01studio aims to create a space that not only preserves the art of Mian Su but also embodies the principles of environmental consciousness and spatial efficiency.
